Released in 2015 as part of Montblanc's distinguished Donation Pen series, this Special Edition honours Johann Strauss II (1825–1899), the celebrated Austrian composer universally known as "The Waltz King." Born in Vienna, Strauss wrote more than 500 musical compositions, 150 of which were waltzes, surpassing both his father's productivity and popularity. Works such as An der schönen blauen Donau secured his place as one of the most beloved composers in music history. With each purchase of a Donation Pen, Montblanc contributes a defined amount to carefully selected cultural projects supporting classical music.
The cap and barrel are crafted from black precious resin with warm champagne-tone gold-plated fittings. The clip is inspired by a violin bow, referencing Strauss's passion for the instrument, while his signature and the Montblanc lettering are delicately engraved on the cap ring. The handcrafted 14K champagne gold nib is engraved with a bat, a nod to his most celebrated operetta, Die Fledermaus. The special presentation box includes a music box playing an excerpt of the iconic Donauwaltz. Sold out worldwide.
