The Pen
The cap and barrel are finished in anthracite-coloured lacquer and encircled by nine rings in 925 sterling silver, representing the planets in orbit. The sun is symbolised by a faceted, green-toned meteorite stone set in the clip, and the Montblanc emblem in the cap top is rendered in mother-of-pearl. The 18K gold nib, with rhodium-coated inlay, is finely engraved with Copernicus' orbital charts.
The Story
This Patron of Art edition honours Nicolaus Copernicus (1473–1543), the Renaissance astronomer whose heliocentric model placed the sun, and not the earth, at the centre of the known universe.
Why This Pen
For the collector who appreciates design with an idea behind it, this is an elegant expression of one of the great turning points in scientific thought, carried through every detail from clip to nib.
